My only advice would be to firstly get at least a 350cc vehicle to enable you to get up. The hills, and secondly, check the weather before you travel; when it rains, it certainly rains. We had a storm on one of our days that made the roads turn to rivers. Personally we found it great fun, but got very wet, and had dirty clothes. No worries though, as we always over pack.

We rented a scooter for a week. We could pick it up from the airport. We then followed the owner and rode to the office to handle the documentation. On our departure, I could simply leave the scooter at the airport. Mariana, who handles the service, made sure that one was entitled to drive the rental vehicle, and feels at ease riding/driving it (especially true for ATVs) before driving off. She takes her time and gives appropriate instructions for the security.
I booked a scooter for 7 days in fully season of August. They waited me out of the airport and they bring my luggage to their office and guided me on the street of Thira to find my hotel!
